You Could Be The One

With pledges for Just One Day 2013 pouring in, many people are asking "what can we do to help?" We are SO glad they are asking!

Most importantly, we all need to get as many shelters and rescue groups to take the Just One Day Pledge as possible. The more that do, the more lives will be saved on June 11, 2013.

More importantly, the more that pledge, the more shelters will have direct experience with a new way of operating. That experience could change their lives forever.

Every shelter or rescue group that pledges receives a free media kit, including project plans, that will help them make June 11 a huge success, including ideas for how to keep that success going after the big day. Therefore, the most important thing people can do right now is encourage shelters and rescue groups to take the pledge; to lobby local officials to endorse the day; and to let their local media outlets know about it.

In Colorado, someone recently created a petition to get their Governor to endorse Just One Day as a national day of no kill. In doing so, they are helping spread the work about the day far beyond the boundaries of their own state. That petition already exceeded its original goal, and, therefore, needed to increase it!

If even one person in each state created a petition like that, imagine what could happen!  You could be that person. Starting a petition is easy and takes only minutes. By starting one in your state, you could be the one that makes your state No Kill. So, what are you waiting for! (c;

Today on Animal Wise Radio

Happy New Year everyone from Just One Day! As we bring in 2013, we'll be looking forward to listening to Nathan Winograd, of the No-Kill Advocacy Center to some announcements for 2013, and some other topics of note - NoKillAdvocacyCenter.org. He will be on Animal Wise Radio today at 1 PM Eastern Time.

Nathan's thoughts about the no-kill movement and its growing momentum have been spot-on the past few years, so we look forward to his thoughts for the year ahead!

Animal Wise Radio will also welcome back Peter Wolf, feral cat champion and blogger at VoxFelina.org. His always thoughtful and annotated writing about our feral friends bumped up against some oft-cited and uncontextualized bits of research data. Peter will highlight some of the worst of 2012 with his Trap Liner Awards, and will also mention some of the brighter moments too.

They will also welcome back Michael Mountain of EarthInTransition.org as he considers "personhood" with Dr. Lori Marino.

Preparations for Just One Day , 2013

Just One Day 2012 was described as one of the greatest animal welfare events in history. Conservatively, about 9,000 animals were saved from shelters - many from shelters that would normally not have been open that day.

With the close of 2012 near, we are preparing for Just One Day 2013, which we expect to be bigger and better than anything you saw in 2013. More shelters have already pledged to participate in 2013 than did in 2012. Additionally, we are stepping up our game.

In 2012 we had a web site and a Facebook page. This year, we are adding a blog, RSS feeds and more. There will be more benefits to participating organizations and a more complete media kit they can use to ensure success.

More importantly, beginning January 1, 2013, we will begin announcing new ways that you can engage the shelters and rescue groups in your area. We would like ALL of them to participate. We can stop the killing in animal shelters on June 11. And if we can do it then, we can do it on June 12, too.

Stay tuned!
